Host

Jo Keppler is an ultra-endurance runner, coach, and motivational speaker whose approach to coaching is shaped by both her athletic achievements and her personal journey of resilience. After overcoming addiction and significant life challenges, she discovered running in 2019 and quickly established herself in the ultra-running world, completing and excelling in demanding events including 100-mile races, the Drakensberg Grand Traverse, and the Tankwa Desert Run. Through her coaching, Jo combines evidence-based training methods with practical experience, helping runners of all levels—from beginners to experienced endurance athletes—achieve their goals while maintaining balance, health, and enjoyment in the sport. Her philosophy focuses on more than performance alone, encouraging athletes to find purpose, confidence, and personal growth through movement.

About your itinerary

For this trip, you'll experience two very different sides of South Africa: the excitement of the world-famous Comrades Marathon and the chance to relax and enjoy some of the country's best wildlife and coastal scenery.

Your journey begins with three nights at Fordoun Hotel in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, giving you time to settle in, prepare for the race, and take part in the final training sessions and event activities. Whether you're running or supporting, it's the perfect opportunity to soak up the atmosphere before race day.

The highlight of the trip is the Comrades Marathon, the world's oldest and largest ultramarathon. Covering nearly 90 kilometres between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, it is one of the most iconic endurance events on the running calendar and an unforgettable experience for every participant.

After the race, it's time to slow the pace with two nights at the Oyster Box in Durban. Enjoy some well-earned rest, recover by the Indian Ocean, and take advantage of the hotel's excellent facilities before the adventure continues.

The final part of your journey takes you to Thanda Safari Lodge for three nights in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal's bushveld. Morning and evening game drives offer the chance to see the Big Five and a wide variety of other wildlife, providing a memorable contrast to the excitement of race week.

Combining sport, relaxation, and safari, this itinerary offers a balanced way to experience some of the very best that South Africa has to offer.
